Understandng What Panic Attacks Are

The average person in the street cannot understand what panic attacks are or what they are like but for anyone who suffers them finding an anxiety panic attack remedy is something that could change their whole life.

Most of us have no knowledge of what is is like to suffer from these self destructive episodes unless we have experienced them ourselves and we find it very difficult to understand why the person feels the way they do. Even close and caring partners find it difficult to comprehend what is going on for the person experiencing a panic attack. The majority of people have no real understanding of what an anxiety attack would be like because it is such an alien concept to feel so threatened in what seems to them like a normal situation.

Anxiety and panic attacks are not easy to explain. They are not easy to understand but they are very difficult to cope with when they happen to you. Overcoming anxiety attacks and resisting the urge to panic is not something that is likely to happen overnight just as the panic attacks probably built up over a period of time. With the right advice on how to change the way you think about things. You can learn to feel very differently about those situations that once made you nervous and anxious.

Treatment For Anxiety And Panic Attack

The key thing to understand about anxiety or a panic attack is that it is all in the mind. Invariably these feelings you experience are in situations that most people accept as normal and even routine. The thing that makes it much more difficult for you is the way you are interpreting the impressions and feelings that your interpretation is causing in these situations.

When something happens that makes you feel uncomfortable it is not usually the thing itself that makes you feel anxious. It is not what might happen that makes you scared it is the fear itself.

When we put ourselves in a situation that feels uncomfortable it is our interpretation of that situation or what has been said that makes us feel bad. Our interpretation of events is what makes us feel either happy or sad, safe or scared. Most other people will interpret that same situation and be perfectly calm and comfortable about it. Those of us who suffer from anxiousness and panic attacks see the situation very differently. This shows that the way to tackle anxiety and panic attacks is by changing how we think and how we interpret situations and conversations.

Even people who are not bothered by anxiousness and panic attacks in their normal daily life will sometimes sit and dwell on something that has been said to them or about them by others. We can get quite upset to think that people would think or say such things about us but it may be we have it all wrong and more than likely, we are worrying too much. Perhaps it wasn't meant in the way it sounds or maybe it wasn't even what they really said. Our feelings are decided by how we interpret what we think we heard and we can go around in circles winding ourselves up like a clockwork spring and get ourselves very upset about it all.

Change the way you think. Consciously think about what has happened and how you view the world through your eyes. Tell yourself that you are stronger and more capable than you give yourself credit for.

Look at the other people around you doing the things you find difficult and tell yourself they are no better than you. They have their problems in life but the way they think allows them to get on with things that you have found difficult to cope with. You can be just like them and overcome these feelings that give you such anxiety. Train yourself to think differently.

Changing How We Think

If the key to overcoming panic attacks and avoiding problems with anxiety is to change the way we think how can we do this? There is no switch that we can click on or off to change how we view the world but by analyzing our thought processes and looking at them from a different direction we can get an alternative view of the world that can open us up to thinking in a different way.

You may be a nervous driver or passenger. Imagine you get in a car driven by a very experienced racing driver and he drives you round a racetrack. You would be scared as you approached the bends at speeds that you thought were impossible to survive.

Yes, you would be scared but if you think differently and have faith in the driver that he does know what he is doing you would still feel scared but you would not feel you were about to die. The driver meanwhile would probably be thinking that he was going a little slow and could go faster. He would be very comfortable travelling at these speeds while you were scared.

There is no difference in the facts of what you each see except how you are each interpreting the situation. One thinks it is dangerous and the other thinks it is all very normal and routine. This shows how the interpretation of events is what scares us rather than the actual event itself.

There is nothing automatic about how we interpret events or how that interpretation makes us feel. One person can have a totally different feeling from another person in the same set of circumstances and the secret is changing how we think.

Your view of the world has been influenced by your childhood and your life experiences but you can change the way you think just the same as those experiences changed you. Understanding why you think the way do is the key to changing what you think about any event.

You can be positive about a situation or you can be negative. You do have a choice and recognising that you are choosing to think one way or another is crucial. Your feelings are affected by your interpretation of events and you can change how you choose to interpret that experience. Make a positive choice that you will consciously interpret events rather than letting those inner fears develop by themselves.

Change the way you think and you can change your life in a positive way and be more relaxed and happy in the future. The anxiety and panic attacks can become a thing of the past and you can enjoy life once again.
