How To Stop Telemarketing Phone Calls

When you are relaxing at home and the phone rings you hope it will be someone you want to talk to but when it is a telemarketing service you just want to find a way to stop telemarketing phone calls. Unfortunately they are persistent and it is not easy to get them to stop but there are things you can do to reduce the numbers of calls and you can have a bit of fun too.

Everyone has a job to do and people who work for telemarketing companies are no different from the rest of us but they drive most of us nuts with their irritating calls at all times of day and night when they are trying to sell us something we most likely have no interest in at all.

So, why do we get all these telemarketing phone calls? Can you remember the last time you were happy that a telemarketer called you? If everybody hates telemarketing calls how come business think it is worthwhile to set up telemarketing calls centers and pay people to spend all day calling people who don't want to get their phone calls? It would appear to make no business sense at all.

The reality has to be that telemarketing makes money. Some people must be responding to these calls and taking up the offer or service being promoted. The secret is in the fact that it is, in marketing terms, very cheap to make these phone calls. Much like spam emails it costs very little and if a very small percentage respond to the offer then the business is in profit.

There are some legal requirements that all telemarketing companies are supposed to adhere to. Unfortunately a lot of calls originate in foreign countries and the law seems less clear about what they can get away with but there are some things you can do to reduce the numbers of nuisance calls you receive from automated telemarketing systems that have your name and number on their list.

Registering you home phone number and cell phone number at https://www.donotcall.gov will help. This is the official national 'I don't want telemarketing calls' registry. It is free to register your phone numbers and within 31 days the telemarketing call lists should be updated to exclude your number from their call lists.

Telemarketing is a business. They aim to make a profit from wasting our time with their nuisance calls because once in a while somebody does respond to their message and they make a sale.

This business model depends on the fact that most people they call will hang up withing about 15 seconds so they can get through a lot of calls to find that one in one thousand customer who is prepared to sign up to their deal.

The more you delay them in making their spam calls the less profitable their business is. If we all spoke to them on the phone for five minutes each time they call the business model would collapse and they might just give up.

Maybe we should have one day a week when we do take the time to talk to telemarketers and waste their time when they phone just as they waste ours and on that day they would soon learn it was a waste of time calling.

Telemarketers have a script that they are required to follow that has been carefully written to be a convincing marketing message. At Some point in that script they will be required to ask you for a response and the simplest way to confuse them is say Yes.

This video, below, almost makes me feel sorry for this particular telemarketer as he calls someone who is ready to respond to his call in a way that would make him wonder if it was time for a change of career.

Some of us get mildly annoyed by telemarketing calls and some of us get quite angry but some people completely lose it when they get these calls at inconvenient times.
