Improve Memory With Memory Booster Training Techniques
68Improve Your Memory Or Just Forget About It?
Many of us worry about memory loss as age becomes an issue. We find ourselves becoming more forgetful and less able to remember the things we mustn't forget.
We arrive in a room and wonder what we came there for. We walk around a store trying to remember why we went shopping and what we intended to buy. Our memory is vital to managing our normal daily lives and it can be scary to discover it is not as accurate as it use to be.
There are ways to train your memory and yourself to help you remember things more easily and that is what we will look at here. There are various books and courses that go into much more detail than we can cover here but there are some simple tips that can make a big difference in your daily life.
I Forgot Why I Am Here
Have you had the experience of walking into a room and stopping suddenly to realize you have no idea why you are there? What was it that made you think you should walk into that room?
Most of us will have experienced this peculiar feeling. It isn't just an age or memory related issue though because in most cases it is simply that you were somehow distracted on your way into the room and the purpose of being there got forgotten while you concentrated on other things.
Usually, you will that if you give yourself a moment to think what you were doing before you entered the room it will spark a reminder of why you thought it a good idea to enter the room. It doesn't always work but it often does.
The problem is not simply a poor memory. It is that you were not focused enough on what you were doing and you allowed your mind to wander or you were distracted by something else.
Did I Remember To Close The Door?
Most of us will have been driving along and suddenly panicked, worrying because we cannot remember if we did actually close the front door when we left home. If we did close it, did we lock it and if we locked it did we leave the key in the lock.
When you have a memory problem like this you face two choices. One is to turn around and go home to check, in which case you will almost certainly find you did close the door, lock it and put the key in your purse or pocket. The second option is to assume that we did all these things and carry on with our journey. You can't remember doing these things but you assume you did just as you do every other day. When we have these lapses of memory it can leave you wondering and worrying all day that you haven't been robbed while you have been out.
The solution is to pay attention to what you are doing so it reinfoces your memory of what you did as you left your home. Pay attention as you close the door and make a mental note that the door is closed. Do the same as you lock the door. Watch yourself put the key in the lock and remember that you turned the key, removed it and then put it in your purse of pocket. You will find that when you drive off you will be quite sure you closed the door and you will remember how you locked it and put the key away.
Memory Training For Memory Improvement
It is debatable whether you can actually increase your memory beyond your natural ability but you can make better use of the memory abilities you already have and train yourself to use them more effectively.
Memory training tips can help you organize your thoughts in a more efficient and effective way just as you would sort through a pack of cards and put them in order. Just like muscles, if you don't use your memory it becomes weakened and less efficient. The converse is that the more you use your memory the more effective it is.
Memory training exercises can teach you how to organize the information you need to remember. Most of us do not need to remember a list of 30 or 40 numbers but people who do memory improvement exercises and memory training courses do find they can achieve this task. It makes a great party trick but it also teaches you how to mentally note all those things you want to remember and fit them together in a way that you can recall them whenever you want to.
If you want a better memory you need to do more than just sit there and wish for it to happen. Just like getting yourself fit, you have to do something about it and either exercise or train your memory to make it more active and better able to remember all those important things we need to be able to recall.
Whether you are studying for exams or just trying to be more effective at work or around the home, a better memory makes life a whole lot easier.
