Making Money Online Is Not A Waste Of Time

I was just browsing some websites and hubs and thought maybe I am wasting my time. I know making money online is not wasting time but then I began thinking about it and wondered. What is wasted time and how do we know if we are wasting our lives away?

It is not wasted time if you believe in what you are doing and it is something that makes you feel proud but so often we are watching TV, browsing the internet or maybe flicking through a magazine without any real purpose or plan and that does feel like a waste of time.

I could be the best waster of time on the planet. I have spent days lounging around watching movies on TV. I have wasted countless hours playing computer games and my web browsing habits can be something like a time machine that makes the hours disappear.

I have spent too much time doing things that afterwards seemed unimportant and I get annoyed with myself that my time has been wasted but what is wasted time and how do we recognize when we are using up valuable minutes and hours of our limited lives doing things that simply don't matter.

My first thought as to how to define wasted time is to say it is doing something that is unsatisfying but that does not mean that time has been wasted. If you find your job unsatisfying that does not mean you should stop doing it. Looking after your family is the most important thing you can do and if you have to do a job you hate but it means you can feed your family and keep a roof over their heads you should feel proud of yourself. It is certainly not wasted time.

Cleaning the house, fixing the car or mowing the lawn can all be unsatisfying chores and many people hate them but that does not make them unimportant or a waste of time.

Playing golf could be considered a waste of time but try telling that to Tiger woods. Can you imagine how different his life would have been if he had been told that playing golf was a waste of time and he should go and do something more useful instead?Tiger Woods has fallen off the pedestal he was once on. His recent crash and burn has shown that life is a lot more complicated than just playing sport for money but what it does show is that playing a game is not always a waste of time. Most of us will never be a top sportsman, or sportswoman, but we all have a talent for something even if it is some, so far, undiscovered ability.

Many pop starts, actors and writers have been told they were wasting their time when putting their youthful efforts into things that other people were convinced would never bring them success or financial reward. For some their persistence and stubbornness got them through and they have gone on to have great success and made a lot of money but for every one success there are probably a thousand who never made the grade and their interest was never to become anything more than a hobby. Does that make it wasted time or did that experience make them better people? Should they have abandoned their dreams and got a job they hated and spent the rest of their lives wondering what might have been?

We can never know what might have been but we do know that if you never try, you never will succeed. You want to be the best trumpet player in the world? You'd best pick up a trumpet and start playing then because if you never put a trumpet to your lips I guarantee you will not have success as a trumpet player but if you do try, you might succeed.

The same principal applies to making money online. If you have an idea for something that you think would be of interest to other people you have to make it available to them for your idea to succeed. Can you write it down and publish it as an ebook? Would a series of MP3 recordings or videos be something people would want to see? Would they pay for them?

You don't have to sell the results of your work. You could just give them away. Giving away information is what we do here on hubpages but in return we get some of the visitors clicking on ads and making us some money. People are cautious about buying things online from an unrecognized source but they are happy to have things for free. Give an example of your work away and maybe they will come back for more.

You can publish a hubpage about your subject and give away good information and advice for free. If you find the demand is there you can register a domain name and set up a website offering your product. You can link to it from your hubpage which gives you a good backlink and the visitors to your page might want to see more of what you write about so they will click the link and visit your website. You might make money or you might not. You simply don't know until you try.

There is no way we can judge if trying something is a waste of time. Maybe later we might look back and wonder if we should have used our time in a better way but if you tried and you enjoyed yourself doing whatever it was then maybe it was time well spent. It could make you look at life in a different way and maybe take you off on a different path in the future. Trying to achieve something you want to do is always worthwhile.

As the saying goes, 'Better to have tried and failed than never to have tried at all'

Sitting in front of the TV watching comedy shows and movies is enjoyable and relaxing but if you do it all evening that is a large chunk of your life passing you by. You may sometimes think you are wasting your time doing nothing but what if you could make money by watching TV shows.

If you are an enthusiastic watcher of these shows you probably know quite a lot about them. Maybe you could share your knowledge and interest in the programs with the rest of the world. Write a hubpage giving your review of the TV show, setup a website where you can write about what is on TV, write a book about why some TV shows are good and others are garbage.

There are lots of ways you can make something positive out of something other people might think was a waste of time.

Have you seen those ads for a mystery shopper job? Those 'Get paid for shopping' type of things? From what I hear of them, most of them are some sort of money making scam. There may be some genuine ones and I am sure there must be professional shopper positions available but I doubt you have to pay $29.99 to register to get them.

Instead of getting ripped off why not become a mystery shopper and make money all by yourself? Every time you buy something you could write a hubpage about it. Was it a good purchase? Did it do what you expected? Was it too expensive? Tell the world what you think and the world will appreciate your efforts and you might make some money from Adsense ads or Amazon ads on your hubpage.

Buy a clock or a timer and set yourself a target. Give yourself an hour or two to write a hubpage about something you like, something you hate or something you would like to know more about. There are a million subjects you could write about and any one of those articles you write could be the Acorn that grows into an Oak tree that changes your life in a positive way and the more pages you write the more likely you are to make money online.

Your partner, your friends and workmates may laugh and think you are wasting your time but what do they know. To be a world class trumpet player you have to start by picking up a trumpet and blowing. To be successful making money online you have to grab your computer keyboard and start typing. Who knows where it will take you or what the future holds but writing a hubpage is not a waste of time.
