Save Money Buying Discount Printer Cartridges

How we can save money buying discount printer ink cartridges.Having a color printer attached to our computers has changed a lot about the way we lead our lives. Hardly anyone writes letters by hand anymore and printing firms have found demand has reduced for printing leaflets and posters to publicize local events as it is now so easy to produce these ourselves.

The easy production of printed materials comes at a cost and that comes in the price of original printer manufacturers ink cartridges cost. For the quantity of ink contained in a printer cartridge at the price the cartridges cost it would be cheaper to buy just about anything else you can think of rather than the ink in an inkjet cartridge.

Next time you look at the price of gas, milk, wine, beer, paint, fois grass or eggs, you might like to think about that and cheer yourself up that those things are less than 1% the cost of the ink in printer cartridges.

Alternatives To EXpensive Printer Ink Cartridges

Fortunately we are not held captive by the original ink cartridge manufacturers, though they would like us to be. There have been several court cases where printer manufacturers have tried to prevent compatible ink cartridge alternatives to the expensive printer ink cartridges being sold but luckily for the consumer they failed.

The printer manufacturers obviously saw a way to make a fortune using the business model of King Camp Gillette with his idea of selling safety razors cheap and making money from selling the disposable razor blades they required. It might have been more acceptable if they hadn't tried quite so hard to rip off the poor consumer and had offered their products at more reasonable prices but they decided it is acceptable to charge almost as much as it costs to buy a printer, to buy replacement ink cartridges.

We can buy discount printer cartridges and I have been doing so for as long as I have had a printer. You may have been encouraged to stick with the OEMs printer cartridges because you had concerns about your warranty being invalidated by using alternative ink cartridges but in my experience there have been no problems whatsoever and with the price of cartridges being what they are, even if you did ever have a problem that wasn't covered you could buy a new printer since the cost of cartridges is so ridiculously high.

How Much Can I Save Using Discount Printer Cartridges

So, the big question is, how much can I save using discount printer cartridges and the answer is, a lot. I have been using alternative suppliers for my printer supplies for years and I must have saved hundreds of dollars over the years.

Just to make things clear here, I never print out photos on highly glossy paper with the intention of framing them and putting them on display. If you do that then it is possible there is a difference in the quality of the printout and the image may not last so well and it might be affected by the light causing it to fade. If I want a hard copy of a picture to keep I get it printed by one of the many online photo printing services available. These are quite cheap and they give a a hard, durable photo to keep that is just like the good old photographs we all remember so fondly. I reckon this is the best way to get hard copy photos printed.

For all other purposes I have found the discount printer cartridges I buy are excellent and they do everything I want at a reasonable price. The price is typically about one fifth of the price of the printer manufacturers original ink jet cartridge price and that is a very significant saving on ink costs.

You can buy discount printer cartridges at many places these days but personally I purchase them through Amazon and you have the backing of a huge online company to rely on if you were to have any problems but, maybe I should touch wood here, I have never had a problem and I must have used maybe 50 to 60 alternative manufacturer replacement ink cartridges over the years.

A selection of cartridges are listed on the right but clicking on any of them will take you to the site where you can search for your specific printer cartridges. I suggest you give them a try and maybe start saving yourself a lot of money on ink.

I've thought about going to discount printer cartridges. After reading about the savings you have realized, I'm definitely going to give it a whirl. Most of my ink is used up by incoming faxes, which is required in my line of work. What really bothers me about my ink jet, is that the color ink cartridges run out too and I don't even use color. I have to buy the color cartridges or my "HP all in one" won't print.

Thanks for the excellent hub Tim.

rminela I would definitely suggest you give them a try. If you have any touble getting cartridges for your printer it would be worth buying a different printer so you can use cheaper cartridges.

I wonder if it is possible to buy a black ink only printer these days. Probably not I expect there are other makes of printer that will work in black only when the color runs out though. Might be worth looking in to that.

Hi Tim, thanks for the useful information here. I have been using 'compatible' ink cartridges for some time for my HP printer as the 'genuine' are a ridiculous price. I had not thought of buying them from Amazon though - will check it out!
