What Are Mens Corsets For

There are several reasons for the availability of mens corsets and not just the obvious one of holding in a slightly larger than wanted belly and to look slimmer. Men may wear corsets to support the muscles if you have a back problem or they may wear them because they help to look slimmer.

The old fashioned whalebone type corsets are long gone and modern corset design is stylish and good looking with the result being that corsets look good and they are something you may be happy to display to the world at large. The old style mens corsets were intended to be hidden but the modern stylish corsets are designed to be better looking and help you to look smart and well proportioned..

Mens Corsets In History

Corsets have been worn by men throughout many historical periods and they continue to be used to this day. Corsets came about to be worn to help support the back whilst hunting and riding and went on to become a popular item of male clothing thanks to the benefits they gave to men in shaping their appearance by helping to enhance the look of broad shoulders and a slim waist.

Male Corsets

The modern corset is nothing like the old whalebone corsets worn by women who frequently fainted because they were so crushed and constrained by their corsets that they were unable to breathe properly.

Modern corsets may not have any boning at all, being a simple elasticated belt which simply smooths out those loose layers of flesh that we would rather the world did not see. Another alternative is a vest made of elasticated material which can smooth out those lumpy contours of flap and smooth them into a more solid appearance.

Materials science has come a long way and it may be the days of the boned corset are numbered as tailored elasticated vests take their place using different and stronger elasticated materials in certain areas of the garment to mold and shape the wobbly bits into a more streamlined and flattering shape.

Medical Corsets For Men

Medical corsets are worn for several different reasons but they are most often used for giving support to the lower back if it has been damaged or weakened in some way. It is said that Andy Warhol wore a corset for support every day of his life after he was shot and wounded in 1968 so if you need to wear a medical corset for support you are in good company.

Medical support corsets are more about function and effect than they are about looking good but you can still find some that are more attractive and stylish than others. You may pay a little more for the quality of the design but since you have to wear it, you may as well look good while doing so.

Body Shaper For Men

Modern materials have many benefits and these have been taken advantage of and used by mens corset designers to come up with the very sleek and modern body shaper for men.

These use the strength and flexibility of man made fibers and use their elastic characterististics to squeeze and control excess body mass.

Since they are lightweight and very flexible these body shapers for men offer great comfort and practicality while at the same time being very good at firming and shaping your body.

As someone who has to wear a medical corset they certainly have improved in looks, although I can’t say they are anymore comfortable to wear. I never realised that about Andy Warhol so you learn something new every day.

I tried to link my Romantic Strangler hub to this but it didn't show up in the list. I'm very disappointed. Your hub covers the use of corsets in the past and would have been more appropriate to link to than the one I ended up linking to. This hub is very informative, thanks for sharing!
